Heading to Lake Powell....

On the road again....this time our backyard is Lake Powell in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. As we approached the lake, we could see boats, and then .....our campground! What a nice campground this is! We had other plans, but new friends we met at the campground in Bryce suggested Wahweap Campground and RV Resort. Luckily I was able to change our previous reservations and get a spot in Wahweap for us. Its so nice! We only have a few days here before we put our camper in storage and head east for a few weeks to visit family, friends, dentists and doctors.

Lake Powell
is that the campground?
wow!
home sweet home (at least for a few days)
we can see the lake from out site
Once we were set up, we decided to check out the "Lake Powell Resort". It is right down the road from our campground. We have access to all the facilities there, including the pool. Since it was a bit toasty, I really wanted to check THAT out. We also wanted to confirm our boat tour to Rainbow Bridge that we had reserved for the morning and get the details as to where and when to meet. Rainbow Bridge tour is a very popular boat tour on Lake Powell. Its an all day outing -3 hours each way by boat, then 1.5 hours to hike to the Rainbow Bridge before boarding the boat again. Its also pretty pricey, so we wanted to make sure we had all the info since we had a reservation for the next morning at 7:30.
its a bit hot here!
heading to the resort to check on the boat reservations
nice pool! Its either this or the lake, or both!
Once our boating plans were settled, we headed into the town of Page for some last minute food shopping. The views were great, so we stopped for some photos along the way. We went over the bridge next to the Glen Canyon Dam, and hope to have some time to take a tour there.

really nice view of the lake
another
can you see the bridge? Its at the Glen Canyon Dam
Back home, we had some chili for dinner. That is the last of the frozen food, which is good. Now I can defrost the freezer/fridge before we put the camper in storage. Fun times! Speaking of time, we were a little confused with the time. Arizona does not have daylight savings time, so they are an hour earlier than Mountain Time. Well, as we were eating dinner, we realized the sun was starting to set! What? It was 6:00! We quickly finished eating, grabbed our cameras and headed down to the lake right across the street. Within 15 minutes, the sun had set. The colors were amazing and changed so quickly....we watched quite a show.

who's having wine?? (and who broke the other glass?)
sun starting to set
wow...we hardly made it to the beach...that was quick
the light is fantastic
check out this hill to go down to the lake
look at those nice colors
the water is perfect...i'm going in tomorrow!
There is a marina right near the campground with a ton of houseboats docked. At first, we thought they were occupied, but there were no lights on at night so we realized they were just moored there. Not sure if these are rentals or privately owned. It got dark early (duh), which was just as well since we had to get up pretty early for the Rainbow Bridge boat ride.

cool
not sure if these boats were occupied
crazy rock formations
i like this one
nice pic...with the sun setting
lots of boats here, and in the marina down the road
So, we were at the lodge at 7am, with everyone else, to take the boat to Rainbow Bridge. We had our lunches and drinks packed, we had our suntan lotion on, we had our hats, and we were all set. So was everyone else. As we were waiting, the announcement came...."the cruise was cancelled due to mechanical failures". Okay then....Well, we waited in line and booked for the next day, and we were lucky to get on that cruise! Thankfully we were staying a couple of more days so we could get on that cruise. Lots of people had no more time here. Hopefully the mechanical issues get worked out and the cruise takes off tomorrow.

So, instead of a cruisin' day, we went back home to pack for our trip east. No easy thing to do! Besides packing our clothes and "stuff", we went through everything in the camper as well, since we will be storing it for several weeks and don't want any issues. We aren't leaving any food items that could attract unwanted visitors. By 10am or so, we had the car packed and most of the "work" done that we needed to do, that we COULD do a few days early. So much planning on this......really! I have a million lists so we don't forget anything. Hahaha.

I needed the post office once again, and to run a few errands, so we rode into Page again and completed all that. On the way back, we stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam and walked over the bridge to take some pics. We also stopped at a few scenic overlooks on the way back home.

Pleased with ourselves for being so prepared for our trip east and storing our "home", we sat outside to watch the sunset one more time. Hope I captured the color change and how quickly it happens. The view is from right outside our camper.

relaxing and watching the "sunset show"
