Lake Havasu...........

We took another field trip from Ehrenberg, AZ, up to Lake Havasu.  We've heard really nice things about the area from other travelers (especially snowbirds), and we wanted to check it out for ourselves. The drive was very scenic, especially through Parker.

gorgeous ride
I'm a knitter, so you know I had to take a pic of the sheep (we haven't seen too many here in the southwest!)
gorgeous

Once we reached Lake Havasu City, we had a nice view of the lake from on top of  the hill. It is a very popular place with boaters! But, since we don't have a boat, and we weren't taking any scenic boat tours, we headed on to London Bridge. Yes, London Bridge!

the gate is from London as well
I know....but we were having fun!
trying to eat a healthy lunch, so we brought our own
The Visitor Center had a small display about the building of London Bridge here in Lake Havasu. So why is the London Bridge in Arizona? There have been several London Bridges over the Thames River in London over the years, which have been replaced as needed. This one was finished in 1831, but by 1924 the bridge could not handle the auto traffic on it and it began sinking into the mud. So, it was decommissioned, and in 1967 the actual bridge was put on the market. The founder of Lake Havasu City won the bid, and the bridge was shipped block by block to the U.S. Each block was numbered so the bridge could be reconstructed easily. This bridge opened in 1971 at a cost of about 5 million.

well let's take a walk over it
the view from the bridge
the area is beautiful
halfway across the bridge
We walked down to the banks of the channel and continued walking until the pavement ran out....hahaha. I think it was a couple of miles by the time all was said and done. We walked on both sides of the channel, past parks and pickle ball courts and picnic areas, to the open water area. On the other side of the channel, we walked to the beachfront, which looked so nice and peaceful. Good place to relax with a good book.

heading for a walk along the water
this area is called the Bridgewater Channel...you can pull your boat right up and relax for the day on the sand
the start of the open water

heading back to the bridge
you can see the little English Village dockside..lots of touristy stuff and restaurants
each block was numbered and put together accordingly
walking along the other side of the channel
beautiful beach (though its a bit windy!!)
great day to sail
beautiful location
ahhh....caught me eating ice cream again!
this is so good!
We stopped at some of the viewing overlooks on the drive back home. The lake and its surroundings are very scenic. Not too many boats out the day we were there, but we hear it is a boaters' and fishermen's paradise. We enjoyed the beautiful day.

Lake Havasu

great views from the road
another great Arizona sunset I can't seem to capture with my camera
