Pacific Shores...........

Pacific Shores RV Resort is a campground at which people OWN the sites, and they either use it themselves or rent them out. Each campsite is maintained by the owner, meaning any plants, patios, or upgrades such as that are done by the owner of the campsite itself. When making a reservation here, you actually reserve a specific site.

This campground was highly recommended by several other RVers we've met along the way (which we find is absolutely the best advertising)! So, we booked a site right on the ocean. Extravagant-I know!! We've paid less for a hotel room. However, some things are just priceless and we were thrilled with the site.

Since the campground, and more specifically, the campsite was so astounding, we really never left for the duration of our stay (except to visit Brenda and Bill). Sometimes the weather was terribly foggy, and you wouldn't have known the ocean was even there except for hearing it. Other times, it was sunny and clear and you could see forever. We have always tried not to let the weather interfere with our good times...it is what it is and you can't change it. Besides, some of us actually like foggy and misty weather! (Ahem....that would be me)!

heading down to the beach
there are lots of switchbacks to get down there
its a nice walk
look...no one is on the beach!
almost there now
Its was a nice walk down to the beach, with great views along the way. We were always on the lookout for whales, but no luck. Our neighbor said he once saw about 40 whales feeding in our little cove, but we did not see any. Quite a few interesting things we spotted walking along the beach! Coolest of all....we had the beach to ourselves. That's the upside of nasty weather....crowd control!

our own private beach Susie!  Well, at least for now!
lots of stuff on the beach
can't see the camper from here
the water is beautifully clear
view (in the fog) of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse from "our" beach

We noticed lots of "bouquets" of flowers, and some greens, all along the beach. At first, we assumed it was from a wedding party, but there were soooo many flowers and greens as we walked down the beach. Then, we remembered that Brenda and Bill had mentioned they watched the Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony for the soldiers lost at sea from their beach (only a few miles away) and they tossed wreaths and flowers into the sea from a boat. It all made sense after that. Judging from what we saw on the beach, it must have been quite a beautiful tribute.

we saw lots of "bouquets" on this beach
more
and more
I know most people like hot sunny days at the beach, but there is something to be said for the cooler, misty days as well. Its a magical place to be...with the blanket of fog surrounding everything and quieting the glare from the water. So peaceful!

hey...where did everybody go?
the fog really moved in quickly
still can see the lighthouse from here
how cool is that?
heading back up
its a workout-hahahha
almost there
Little did we know that the owner of our campsite actually owned 3 different sites, and was staying there at one of his other sites. He came around, introduced himself and told us to let him know it we needed anything, and he meant it! He took really good care of his sites. The site we were in even had a water feature, that lit up at night too! Anyway, he was super nice, and he encouraged us to use the grill and outdoor kitchen, and really enjoy the place, especially since we paid good money for the site.  We were set with our own stuff though, and just REALLY enjoyed the view! That was priceless!

the water feature at this fancy campsite
cheers!
we are enjoying every minute at this oceanfront site :)
We did have sun for a couple of days, and the views looked so different. Its amazing how different things can look, especially at the ocean. We were optimistic that we'd see at least one whale over the few days at the oceanfront campsite, and thought for sure we'd spot one when the sun was out! But no. That's okay though....we were being greedy. We had already seen some whales farther south, and thought we'd have the same sort of luck. Haha. We did see bald eagles just about every day, so we were thrilled with that!

looking for whales
a better view today
still looking for whales...actually, this was the perfect vantage point
this front yard is gonna be hard to beat...hahaha
Our walks were much longer on the sunny days. We walked miles down the beach just exploring and enjoying the ocean air. There were several more people enjoying the beach when the sun was out, but still, it was pretty empty.
