Summer is starting to be in full swing here. When we first arrived, we pretty much had this loop of the campground to ourselves. Now it is fully booked! Its still nice though...people are friendly and the campsites are large.

This campground really filled up! |

almost all the sites in this loop are taken |
The walk to the beach is only about 20 minutes-how convenient! We like living in a beach town, if only for a short time. Haha! The day was sunny and clear when we left for the beach, and when we got there, well....where is the water? The ocean was totally fogged in. We were entertained by some guys flying their quadcopter, and were amazed at how well they flew it, especially in the wind.

hanging out for a while and waiting for the fog to lift |
As the fog lifted, we saw that it was low tide and headed over to the "marine garden" to check out the tide pools. It was quite the happening place on the beach! Volunteers and naturalists are on hand to answer questions and to make sure people read the signs and stay off the rock. We talked to one of the naturalists and asked about puffin spotting. She gave us some tips...like they were on the north face, they burrow into their nests but come out for food and stand outside the burrow a bit every once in a while. We really wanted to spot a puffin!

its low tide...should be good |

look at all those nesting birds! |
The tide pools were interesting and colorful...nature's art. We had fun checking to see what was caught up in the tide pools. See below.......
Once the tide started coming in, the waves seemed to become a lot stronger! Signs were put up to remind people to be careful. Everyone was pretty much checking out the tide pools or the birds, and most of us weren't paying any attention to the water. The colors were gorgeous, with the fog in the background. See below.......
When a bird of prey comes near Haystack Rock, its wild!! You can see the large bird (turkey vulture?) in the picture and all of the other birds flying helter skelter around the rock. Its not long before the turkey vulture is flying away, towards land, with a little lunch.
Walking back to our "spot" on the beach, we were staring at Haystack Rock, north side just observing and looking for puffins when guess what? We both saw 2 puffins flying back onto the rock! We were so thrilled. We will try spotting more at another low tide, when we have a better view of the north face of the rock. We are so glad we talked to the naturalists and got those viewing tips! A little knowledge goes a long way.
