Capitol Reef continued..............

We have a cool camper as a "neighbor"! Das Rollende Hotel....a tour bus that converts into sleeping quarters for the passengers. The "kitchen" is right outside under the tent. I think there are about 40 people traveling in that unit! We saw this also when we were staying in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, this past summer. The bus was staying at our campground there as well. We did not get to talk to anyone to learn more about it, but we did check out a google search. For more information, click here.

German Tour Bus/Hotel
walking in the campground in the evening-trying to nonchalantly get some pics of that tour bus!
back view of the bus...the tent on the side is the "kitchen"
and we thought we only had a little room!(actually, no...we are perfectly comfortable)
We headed out in the morning for the park again....ready to hike the Grand Wash before weather kicked in. Look who we passed at the Hickman Bridge Hike Trailhead? Hard to miss them!
Look who it is...at the trailhead in the park!
The Grand Wash can be hiked starting at either end, and we decided to start at the "highway", so we did not have to go down another dirt road to park. The weather was threatening, and we didn't want to get stuck. This trail was so much fun and just beautiful!

love the rock walls
new one...so sweet
look at the size of this "cave"
it really is pretty deep
wonder how far it goes through
moving along...and the rocks are getting holey
so cool
more "caves"
this looks like a home...complete with a flower pot on the front step
the wash meanders through the rock
good hike Susie!
fancy!! Pinstripes!
fascinating stuff everywhere
rock chunks just slide off...but when?
looks like the rock was melting here
and here too
following the wash
watch out from above!
such a cool hike
the narrows are narrowing here-though this is not a slot canyon
cool features carved out everywhere
the rock walls are huge
uh oh- another rock fell
isn't this fun?
cozy little "seats" if you want to rest (j/k)
someone defaced this wall, which is highly illegal...but we did get a little chuckle out of this one....even though its NOT FUNNY to put grafitti on the rock walls (and is a crime punishable with a $300 fine)!
still walking through the canyon
enormous rock walls
coming towards the end of the "high walls"
the wash opens up quite a bit here
such cool rock formations
hard to capture...but the red "dirt" at the bottom of this rock cliff is fascinating
oh...its starting to get hot now...the sun broke through
here I am....just little me amongst these huge rocks
great hike!
the wash is very wide here
pretty!
so desert like
new one
who's there????
a really fun hike!
heading back
the views going back are outstanding too
tall rocks!
almost back now
nature's art
more fascinating rock features .... all around
heading back out of the wash now
still in the narrows for a bit
cool yellow rock
see...it didn't rain!
just look at those cool rocks
woah....that's a big chunk that fell off
We so thoroughly enjoyed this hike through the wash and we were very happy it didn't rain. We did check in with the ranger before doing the hike. Sometimes there are flash floods even in washes this wide, that could be a problem for hikers. We are learning about the hiking around here, and its always smart to just check with a ranger. Just sayin'.

On the way back "home", we stopped at a few more scenic overlooks and enjoyed lunch at the picnic area. Everything is just beautiful here. Really.

Navajo Mountain
driving through Fruita....an oasis in the high desert
lunch at the beautiful Fruita Picnic grounds
ahhhh.....really enjoying this tuna sandwich...my absolute favorite
heading home
oh...the big post office....hopefully the pony express shows up and the cards/letters we mailed this morning arrive soon!
our campground....with some more rain.....we had another great day in the park though!
